Gray Wins NLL Championship as Lady Giants Finish Second Overall

The Fremont Ross girls tennis team turned in an outstanding performance Tuesday at the NLL Championships at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, finishing second overall as a team and putting together one of its best days of the season.

Leading the way was Elayna Gray, who captured the No. 1 Singles NLL Championship with an incredible performance.

Gray entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and earned an opportunity in the championship match to face a Bowling Green opponent who had defeated her earlier this season in their dual match.

This time, Gray would not be denied.

In a tremendous three-set battle, Gray played with determination and confidence, avenging the earlier loss and capturing the NLL title. She played her best tennis when the lights were brightest, leaving everything she had on the court to earn the championship.

It's another impressive athletic accomplishment for Gray, who was also a state qualifier in diving for the Fremont Ross swimming and diving program last winter.

While Gray brought home the individual championship, the Lady Giants received strong performances throughout the lineup.

At No. 2 Singles, Ruby Harger entered as the second seed and battled her way to a fourth-place finish. Breanna Rhea took care of business at No. 3 Singles, matching her No. 3 seed with a third-place finish.

Ross also exceeded expectations in No. 1 Doubles. Lyzelle Humburg and Gianna Humburg entered the tournament seeded fifth but worked their way to an impressive third-place finish.

At No. 2 Doubles, Kendall LeJeune and Arrianna Richards entered as the No. 3 seed and finished right where they were seeded, taking third place.

With strong performances across all five courts, the Lady Giants accumulated enough points to finish second overall in the NLL, a tremendous accomplishment for the program.
